<description>Britney Spears' "Radar" is an infectious pop track that showcases her signature sound and captivating style. Released as part of her fifth studio album, the song features a catchy melody and danceable beat, highlighting Britney's evolution as an artist. Its vibrant music video further enhances the song's appeal, making it a fan favourite. “Radar” is a track by American pop singer Britney Spears from her fifth studio album Blackout. The song also appears as a bonus track on her sixth studio album Circus and was issued on 23 June 2009 by Jive Records as the fourth single from Circus. Its lyrics describe an attraction between the narrator and a man, with the singer wondering whether he recognises her feelings. Produced and co‑written by Bloodshy &amp; Avant together with The Clutch, “Radar” is an electropop number that incorporates sonar‑like pulses and synthesiser textures. Critical response was largely favourable, many reviewers naming it a highlight of Blackout. The single entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No 90 and peaked at No 8 in Sweden. Although it performed respectably on the charts, it did not match the commercial impact of the other Circus singles, partly because it lingered on the charts for almost two years. Consequently, it is regarded as a modest hit for Spears. The accompanying video, directed by Dave Meyers, portrays Spears as an aristocratic lady entangled in a love triangle with two polo players. “Radar” was first performed during The Circus Starring: Britney Spears, a show that featured Spears pole‑dancing. Filming took place on 27–28 May 2009 alongside a Candie’s photo‑shoot at the Bacara Resort &amp; Spa north of Santa Barbara, California. Meyers, who had previously directed Spears’s videos for “Lucky”, “Boys” and “Outrageous”, told MTV that the video drew inspiration from Madonna’s “Take a Bow”. He wanted to experiment, saying: “It isn’t the lead single from Circus; let’s be a little experimental and avoid surrounding her with dancers. The video is an opportunity for her to express a sense of self. The media often attack her, so I thought, ‘Let’s showcase the classy side of Britney and focus on a sophisticated, very European‑inspired experience.’ At this stage in her career, I think that would be a nice step.” The video premiered on 2 July 2009 via Spears’s official Vimeo channel and website. The narrative opens with Spears arriving at a polo club, alighting from a car in a vest, jeans and sunglasses, and beginning to sing as a man greets her. They pass a barn where another man, dressed in a sleeveless shirt, sits; they exchange a brief glance before she sings from a balcony, observing the second man through binoculars. At the close of the first chorus the first man presents her with a necklace. Throughout the second chorus she is shown singing and watching the second man prepare. When the bridge commences, Spears appears at the match in a white dress and large hat—a nod to the 1967 film adaptation of Anna Karenina. She sings, “I’ve got my eye on you, I can’t let you get away.” After the match she departs, the second man follows, and they flirt in a hallway before leaving together. The first man discovers her absence, enters the hallway and finds the necklace on the floor. The video concludes with Spears and the second man walking off into the sunset. Critical commentary varied. Daniel Kreps of Rolling Stone dismissed it as “Spears’ weakest video since ‘Gimme More’”, deeming the concept unoriginal and likening it to “a 30‑second commercial for one of Spears’s perfumes”. Conversely, OK! praised its “posh” quality and gave a favourable review, noting it as a pleasant departure from her recent revealing videos. E! described it as “different” from “Womaniser” or “If U Seek Amy”, arguing that the lack of choreography allowed a straightforward storytelling approach.
